Energy Configurations

No two industrial energy demands are identical — and the energy source available to meet them varies. MIK Projekt engineers boiler systems across the full spectrum of industrial energy sources: solid, liquid, gaseous and waste fuels, as well as geothermal energy. This is not a menu of options — it is a reflection of how we work.

Oil and gas-fired boilers remain the backbone of industrial heat generation globally, and MIK Projekt has an extensive track record across this segment — from standard natural gas applications to complex fuel gases including process and industrial byproduct gases, as well as simultaneous multi-fuel configurations. Decarbonisation pressure is shifting the market toward natural gas as a transition fuel and toward higher system efficiencies. MIK Projekt boiler systems achieve up to 98% efficiency through combustion air preheating and flue gas condensation, making them a defensible choice in an increasingly carbon-constrained environment.

Fuel flexibility is no longer a premium feature — it is an operational necessity. Fluctuating commodity prices, evolving emissions regulations, and long-term decarbonisation commitments all require boiler plant operators to move between fuels without sacrificing performance or availability. MIK Projekt's multi-fuel systems are engineered from the ground up for this reality: capable of handling fossil and renewable fuel mixtures, including seamless biomass integration alongside legacy fuels, without compromising combustion stability or thermal output.

Biomass has re-emerged as a cornerstone fuel in industrial heat and power generation — and the engineering challenge lies in its variability. MIK Projekt configures boiler systems across the full biomass spectrum: from wood chips and pellets to agricultural residues and process byproducts. For each application, we evaluate combustion behaviour, ash characteristics, fouling potential, and site logistics before selecting the appropriate combustion technology and boiler type. The result is a system optimised for the specific fuel — not a generic solution adapted after the fact.

Industrial processes generate substantial quantities of waste heat that in most facilities is discharged unused. MIK Projekt provides heat recovery boiler systems that capture this energy from exhaust gases — whether clean or chemically complex — and convert it into usable steam or hot water. Systems can be integrated with single or multiple heat sources to optimise capital efficiency. For facilities focused on reducing energy costs and carbon output simultaneously, heat recovery represents one of the highest-return investments available, often with payback periods under twelve months when applied correctly.

The increasing penetration of intermittent renewable electricity — photovoltaic and wind — is introducing structural volatility into grid pricing, including periods of negative spot prices. Power-to-heat (P2H) systems allow industrial operators to exploit this volatility as a cost reduction lever, absorbing surplus grid electricity for thermal conversion and reducing dependence on combustion-based heat generation. MIK Projekt engineers hybrid solutions that combine electric heating elements with conventional fuel combustion, giving plant operators the flexibility to respond dynamically to real-time energy market conditions.

Hydrogen is emerging as a key fuel in industrial decarbonisation, and combustion systems for hydrogen demand precise engineering. MIK Projekt supplies boiler systems with burners supporting hydrogen-natural gas blends as well as pure hydrogen combustion up to 100% H₂. Equipment is sourced from leading OEM manufacturers specialised for hydrogen applications. For each project, we assess site-specific conditions, available infrastructure, and safety requirements before recommending a solution.

Geothermal energy provides a stable, renewable heat source that — with a properly engineered system — can supply a significant share of the thermal demand for an industrial facility or district heating network. MIK Projekt designs and supplies equipment for systems utilising geothermal energy as a primary heat source. Each project requires detailed assessment of geological conditions, temperature potential, and required capacity before a technical solution is defined.

Non-recoverable waste streams represent both an environmental liability and an untapped energy resource. Where reuse and recycling are not viable, MIK Projekt engineers waste-to-energy boiler systems that convert these materials into process heat or electricity, directly displacing fossil fuel consumption. Waste fuels are technically demanding — variable composition, aggressive corrosion, fouling, and stringent emissions limits all require precise engineering responses. We address these through targeted combustion system design and boiler configurations built specifically for the characteristics of the waste stream in question.

Coal continues to operate as a primary fuel in a number of industrial and district heating facilities across our operating regions, and MIK Projekt has the engineering depth to handle it. We bring practical expertise across multiple coal grades, with a focus on maximising thermal efficiency to reduce specific emissions per unit of output. Beyond conventional coal applications, we actively engineer multi-fuel configurations that allow operators to blend coal with biomass — a proven pathway for reducing carbon intensity while working within existing infrastructure constraints and transition timelines.
